Chicago bluesman Reed played sang, played guitar and harmonica, and wrote “Bright Lights, Big City,” “Big Boss Man” and other tunes without which the modern bar band would wither and expire. He played shuffles and straight-eighth feels in a deceptively simple style that grooved hard and sold many records. I nicked the harmonization that goes up to the 7th and 9th from the playing of Louisiana guitarist Kenny Neal.
